Eric LeGrand Signs Deal To Have Two Books Published In September

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - HarperCollins Publishers has acquired two books by ex-Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand, the major publishing company announced on Tuesday.

Both books are scheduled for publication in September of 2012. The first, an adult memoir, is entitled Believe: My Faith And The Tackle That Changed My Life, and the second, a version for younger readers, is entitled Believe: The Victorious Story of Eric LeGrand.

"I am so happy for this opportunity to share my story in book form," LeGrand told The Star-Ledger. "I hope that they will not only help to inspire people who have disabilities, but will resonate with anyone who has suffered in any way. If I can thrive despite my injury and never give up hope, maybe they can do the same thing."

LeGrand, who was left paralyzed following a tackle against Army in 2010, has made a very successful post-football life for himself despite his tragic injury. The Avenel, New Jersey native is on schedule to earn his degree this fall, and has garnered some experience as an analyst on the Rutgers' radio network.

More importantly, he has begun standing again with the support of a machine.

"I hope this book will bring more attention to people with spinal-cord injuries," he said. "Everything that has happened since that fateful day on the football field has showed me that there is a higher power at work and a plan for me. I will do everything I can do embrace this still unfolding future for me and for everyone who reads my story."

Greg Schiano, the former Rutgers football coach who is now the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, honored his former player last month by signing LeGrand to a free-agent NFL contract.

LeGrand's unbelievable journey just continues to unfold. Sound off with your thoughts and comments in the section below...
