NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 14-year-old Brooklyn boy is in critical condition after being shot in the back of the head Wednesday night, police said.

The boy had been walking with at least one friend when they encountered a group of people around 11 p.m. at the corner of Cornelia Street and Evergreen Avenue in Bushwick, police said.

One person opened fire, striking the teen in the head.

The boy, who has not been identified, was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The shooting apparently happened following an earlier dispute.
