Thousands Still Without Power In Southern Jersey; Could Be Days Before Service Is Restored

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Thousands of utility customers in southern New Jersey were still without power late on Sunday morning, one day after severe thunderstorms socked the region.

And officials said it will likely take "several days'' before service is fully restored.

Atlantic City Electric said that more than 206,000 customers lost service during the storms, which hit early on Saturday morning. And nearly 125,000 still had no power as of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The storms caused widespread damage in the region, knocking down numerous trees and power lines. They also were blamed for the deaths of two young cousins, who were camping with their families at a state park in Salem County when a tree fell on their tent during the height of the storm.
