Fox Caught In Ossining; Officials Hope To Catch Three Others

OSSINING, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A female gray fox that had some Ossining residents afraid to leave their homes has been nabbed by animal control officers.

The animal was caught in a trap on Mundet Drive on Thursday night, officials said.

The animal is part of a family of foxes that had been terrorizing residents of Osage Street for weeks.

Officials believe there are at least three foxes still in the area.

"We're dealing with more than one fox, this is a family," Lt. Michael Mackelroy told 1010 WINS. "They've caught the female and they're hoping to use the female to lure the father and babies that are left."

Animal control officers believe the female fox was protecting her two cubs when she chased after a woman while walking her dog.

Kim Schuster said the fox had chased her down until she tripped on her driveway and fell flat on her face.

Schuster said she fractured her jaw and three of her teeth and got five stitches on her face.
