Kitty Wells, country music’s first female superstar, has passed away at the age of 92.

Wells, best known for her 1952 #1 hit “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels”, died at her home in Nashville on Monday from complications from a stroke, according to CBS News.

Known as the “queen of country music”, Wells influenced women in country music, and became the second female country artist inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The 1991 GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient performed for six decades, before retiring from the music industry in 2000.

Reaction on Twitter is beginning to pour in from the likes of Kellie Pickler, Charlie Daniels, Rodney Atkins, and more. Check out their tributes to country music royalty.
