MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Two sisters from Long Island are in the hospital after a serious auto accident in Massapequa on Tuesday.

Police say the girls were crossing a busy street when a Toyota Corolla collided with the pedestrians, causing one girl, 15, to sustain severe head trauma.

The victims were transported to local hospitals, where the 15-year-old was listed in serious, but stable condition.

Her 13-year-old sister was treated for minor leg injuries and is stable.

The operator of the vehicle, an 18-year-old female, was unharmed. A breathalyzer administered at the scene yielded negative results.
