Police: Brightwaters Man Killed In West Islip Hit-And-Run

WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a driver who they said hit and killed a Brightwaters man with his car in West Islip.

It happened on Sandra Avenue around midnight on July 2.

Jason Nelson, 27, was standing outside a house when a car headed northbound on the street hit him and knocked him to the ground, Suffolk County police said. The driver then took off.

Nelson suffered severe head trauma and died in the hospital.

Investigators believe the hit-and-run happened sometime after an argument between Nelson and the occupants of the vehicle, according to police.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
