L.I. Teen Set To Be Arraigned After Allegedly Killing Two Friends While Driving Drunk

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -  A Long Island teenager was arraigned on Sunday after police said that he killed two of his friends while driving drunk.

Broken headlights and tire tracks mark where police said two Long Island teens died in a car crash early on Saturday morning. The driver, their friend, was arrested at the scene.

"He was observed to be intoxicated," Detective Sargent William Lamb of the Suffolk County Police Department told CBS 2's Ann Mercogliano. "It's a tragedy, obviously, for everyone involved."

Police said that 17-year-old Ryan Foote was behind the wheel of the 2007 Hyundai when he veered off the road around 1:15 a.m. in Mastic. Police said that speed may have been a factor.

Foote's two passengers, 18-year-old James McClease and 17-year-old Rashawn Minter, were both ejected from the car and died at the scene. Family members said that the two victims were related, and it's believed that the three teens were heading home from a friend's house.

Police said that Foote was driving southbound on Winters Drive. He then somehow lost control of his car and swerved off the road, hitting a fence and striking several trees.

Residents near the crash site said they feel for the victim's family.

"They're never going to get past the devastation," said a neighbor who didn't want to give his name.

Foote was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center for bruises and lacerations.

Foote pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail.

He has been charged as an adult.
