As we previously reported, Taylor Swift appears to be dating–or at least hanging out and getting quite cozy with–Conor Kennedy, the 18-year-old grandson of the late RFK (Robert F. Kennedy). They were seen by several sources hanging out publicly last weekend in and around the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Mass.
And now word is out that Ethel Kennedy (RFK’s widow) has allegedly given her stamp of approval to the budding romance.
“We should be so lucky,” Ethel said during the Television Critics Association Press Tour this week, according to the TV site Zap2it. She was out promoting Ethel, the HBO documentary on her life and work that is set to air this fall.
“We should be so lucky,” Ethel said, when asked by a reporter if she ever sees Taylor as a “future Kennedy.” However, she quickly noted she was not personally involved in any romantic fix-ups. “The talk about my involvement — certainly not [true],” Zap2it reports that she said. Instead, Ethel said, it was more thanks to her daughter Rory, who directed the documentary. “Rory went to a concert with her two little girls, and that’s what started it all with Taylor.”
Rory, who was also part of the TCA press event, confirmed it: “That’s how we first met Taylor Swift. She is a great friend of ours.”

Taylor, Rory, and Ethel have already crossed paths, and expressed admiration for each other, so the comment isn’t just out of the blue. Taylor, for instance, appeared at the film’s premiere at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

“The only time in my life I have ever been starstruck was meeting Caroline and Ethel Kennedy,” Taylor told Vogue.
And in a video interview conducted during Sundance, Ethel herself perked up at the mention of Taylor: “She is amazing!” Rory echoed the sentiment, saying she’s “such a good role model for young girls…as well for all women, really.”
So whether or not Taylor and Conor are actually calling themselves ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend,’ at least they can rest easy that the Kennedy family approves.
