The '50 Shades' Debate: Is It Wrong For Women To Fulfill Their Fantasies?

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- By now, if you haven't read '50 Shades Of Grey,' you've certainly heard of it.

The naughty novel has plenty of fans. In fact, the book has reportedly started a trend: Ladies fulfilling their '50 Shades' fantasies online.

So, is this just a way for women to express themselves?

Or is it just plain wrong?

To weigh in on the debate, Brandon Wade, founder and CEO of SeekingArrangement.com, what he calls a "sugar daddy" dating website, visited The Couch, along with Lori Zaslow, a professional matchmaker with her own company, Project Soulmate.

"It's just the nature of...the statistics," said Wade. "We noticed earlier this year people started creating profiles on our website wanting the '50 Shades' type relationship...we polled all the members who signed up on our website, 1.6 million of them...roughly 200,000 women on the site [are] seeking such a relationship. It just happens to be a trend as a result of the book."

According the Wade, 90 percent of the men polled on his website found a submissive women like Anastasia Steele to be a turn on.

But Zaslow was quick to disagree.

"At the end of the day if you're looking for a serious relationship - we are hard-wired for love - that might be a fun one night stand and a fantasy to play out in a loving relationship...But for here and there, you just never know.  It's dangerous, it could really hurt your heart," she said.
