Giants' Weatherford Responds To Jerry Jones, Cowboys With Trash Talk Of His Own

NEW YORK (WFAN) - Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made headlines this week at Cowboys training camp -- not for anything pertaining to his football team, but for how his squad feels about the NFC East-rival Giants.

"I know we're standing here today," Jones said to fans in attendance at training camp on Monday, "but we want you to come to (Cowboys Stadium) and watch us beat the New York Giants' a—, OK?"

The Giants have been their low-key selves since Jones made that declaration -- simply ignoring the comment -- but Big Blue punter Steve Weatherford bucked that trend on Friday when he spoke with Evan Roberts on WFAN.

"I don't know, you can let him blow smoke all day," Weatherford said in reference to Jones. "I guess that's the only thing they have to cheer about down there right now. I've got a ring on my finger."

Jones, though, owns the advantage with three NFL titles as owner of the Cowboys. Weatherford earned his only ring as a member of the Super Bowl XLVI champion Giants.

Weatherford acknowledged that the Giants' model is to let their actions speak on the field -- as they did this past season -- but the eight-year NFL veteran admitted that it's just his nature to defend his team.

"I think everybody on the team -- with the exception of me -- will keep their mouth shut," Weatherford explained. "I always have a good time. I try to fit the mold of the New York Giants and I do consider myself a classy guy, but it's all in good fun. I'm not going to attack anybody's character or anything like that, but I think it's good to talk a little trash every once in a while. It makes Sundays a little more interesting."

The Giants open their season against the Cowboys on September 5 at MetLife Stadium.
