Islanders Sign First-Round Draft Pick Griffin Reinhart

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Islanders have locked down first-round draft pick Griffin Reinhart, signing the defenseman to a three-year, entry-level contract Thursday.

The 18-year-old was selected No. 4 overall in June. The jewel of the Islanders' seven defensive selections, Reinhart recorded 12 goals and 24 assists last season for the Western Hockey League's Edmonton Oil Kings.

The team invited their fans on Twitter to congratulate Reinhart for signing his deal. Two of his Islanders colleagues also joined in.

"Congrats to @GriffinReinhart ..excited to have you officially aboard #Isles," posted Matt Moulson.

Defenseman Travis Hamonic had some fun at the youngster's expense: "Congrats to @GriffinReinhart on his first NHL contract! Many great things to come from him, 1st is buying box set seasons of @GossipGirl."

"Thank you to everyone for the congratulations! Proud to be a part of the @NYIslanders organization," Reinhart tweeted.
