Boomer Brushes Off Hasselbeck's Criticism Of 'Idiotic' Tebow Stance

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Boomer Esiason generated a ton of discussion this week with his "cut Tim Tebow" comments.

Former Giants backup quarterback and current NFL analyst Tim Hasselbeck recently joined the fray, and he was almost as tough on Esiason as the WFAN morning show co-host was on Tebow.

"I think it's laughable that Boomer Esiason would say that you should cut Tim Tebow," Hasselbeck told the New York Post.

Esiason, alongside co-host Craig Carton, wouldn't take the bait.

"He's very good at what he does," Boomer said, "and he's allowed to have an opinion."

Hasselbeck said he thought it was an "idiotic statement" from Esiason. No disrespect, of course.

"The guy is a good football player period. No one can dispute that. If you dispute that you've lost your mind," he told the paper.

"You know what?" Boomer responded. "My comments were so 'idiotic' that everybody across the landscape had to discuss (them)."

Esiason's stance was arguably the hottest topic around the league Monday. Despite backlash from some fans and members of the media, the former Jets quarterback refused to back down Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long, also a longtime NFL analyst, told Boomer and Carton that Tebow is too much of a "distraction" to the Jets and he "wouldn't have brought him in."

When asked about Esiason's comments, Tebow responded with typical grace. Boomer took a page straight out of that playbook.

"Listen, I wish him the best in his announcing career," Esiason said of Hasselbeck. "And God bless him."
