West New York Mayor Indicted In Computer Hacking Case

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A federal grand jury has handed up indictments charging a northern New Jersey mayor and his son with computer hacking.

Prosecutors say West New York Mayor Felix Roque and his 22-year-old son, Joseph, hacked into computers of political foes who had set up a website urging the mayor be recalled.

In the indictment unsealed Thursday, the two are charged with conspiracy, gaining unauthorized access to computers and causing damage to computers.

The Roques allegedly used aliases to get password information for people operating the website. Joseph Roque allegedly disabled the site.

Roque is a Democrat who beat former Mayor Sal Vega in the city's nonpartisan election on May 10.
