Man On Loose After Allegedly Shooting Off-Duty NYPD Detective In Manalapan

MANALAPAN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - It was an emotional plea from the mother of Robert Dunbar, who is accused of being involved in the shooting of an off-duty NYPD detective inside of Dunbar's estranged wife's home.

"We have no idea where my son is," Dunbar's mother told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "But put it on the news that his family is behind him, and has a lawyer, and we only want him to return safe and turn himself in."

Neighbors said that at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday on Taylors Mills Road in Manalapan, Dunbar showed up at his former home to confront his wife and her new boyfriend, who is an NYPD detective from Brooklyn.

Gunshots were fired before Dunbar ran from the scene, and an all-night manhunt managed to elude police.

The detective was treated for a wound to his shoulder and was released from a local hospital.

Dunbar's estranged wife and their three young children -- all under the age of five -- were not harmed.
