NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An old, friendly face was at Jets Training Camp in Cortland on Tuesday.

A former first-round pick out of Marshall? The all-time NFL leader in completion percentage?

Yep, you guessed it. Ex-Jets quarterback Chad Pennington graced his presence in upstate New York to visit the team.

While in Cortland, Pennington announced that he’s formally retired, reported WFAN’s Peter Schwartz. The 36-year-old last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2010.

Once he got that out of the way, the longtime Jet got down to business and started talking football. He said that he’s been in contact with current starting QB Mark Sanchez since the two first met, and that he’s fully invested in the USC alum, Schwartz reported.

Pennington also spoke his mind about the Wildcat offense, which has been a focus at camp with the emergence of Tim Tebow.

According to Schwartz, Pennington claimed that it’s selfish for a quarterback to be worried about rhythm if he’s asked to come out for a Wildcat play. That comment was likely in direct reference to the Sanchez-Tebow dynamic, in which the latter is expected to be called on from time to time to run a Wildcat play.

Following practice, head coach Rex Ryan asked Pennington to address the team, and according to the Star-Ledger, he told the players to make every day count and not just simply get by on the practice field.

Pennington played for the Jets from 2000-2007. In 11 NFL seasons, the Tennessee native threw 102 touchdowns to 64 interceptions, passed for 17, 823 yards and finished with a 90.1 rating.
