Lawsuit Claims O.R. Tech Often Watched Porn On Smartphone While On Job

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A former technician at Mount Sinai Hospital has filed a lawsuit, claiming her old supervisor and fellow tech denigrated her for being an observant Jew and routinely watched porn on his smartphone while on the job.

Sandra Morris, who used to operate the complicated heart and lung machines that keep a patient alive during heart surgery, said Ahmed Cercioglu harassed her and created a hostile work environment.

She also alleges Cercioglu was often found not doing his job, even in the operating room.

"Ahmed was constantly on his phone, texting, talking on the phone while on bypass as well as watching porn or sleeping," Morris said. "And nobody wants to say anything because you know he is one of the director of cardiac surgery."

Morris said colleagues even made jokes about Cercioglu's behavior.

"I've walked in on several occasions as well as other staff members have, where he was watching pornography on his phone," Morris said.

Despite five years on the job with an excellent evaluation, Morris said she was fired after going on disability after slipping and falling on the job.

Mount Sinai Hospital said it had no comment due to the active litigation.
