NY FBI Field Office Boss Janice K. Fedarcyk Retiring

NEW YORK (AP) -- The head of the New York FBI office and the highest-ranking female U.S. law enforcement officer in the field is retiring this month after 25 years of service with the bureau.

Janice K. Fedarcyk has led the FBI's largest field office for two years. She has overseen major cases including insider trading, wire fraud and counterterrorism investigations.

She led an international team that in March arrested one of the world's most wanted computer hackers, involved in the hacking group Anonymous. Her office arrested a leader of the Somalia terror group al-Shabaab.

She said Thursday her last day will be Aug. 24. Her replacement hasn't been named.

Fedarcyk served in Los Angeles as a special agent in charge of counterterrorism. She was special agent in charge in Philadelphia.

She plans to open a consulting business in Washington, D.C.
