Kent, C.T. (CBSNewYork) – A former butler has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for trying to extort millions from his boss during an elaborate hostage situation in April 2007.

Prosecutors say Emanuel Nicolescu and two male accomplices held Anne Bass and her house guest hostage at her estate in Kent, Connecticut after injecting the women with what they claimed to be a lethal virus, reported WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

The three masked men told Bass that they would only provide the antidote if Bass collected and handed over $8 million in cash.

Bass was able to convince the men that gathering so much cash in the middle of the night would be impossible.
