Week-Long Connecticut Sales Tax Holiday Underway

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Shoppers can enjoy a break from Connecticut's sales tax through next Saturday on some items.

Connecticut's annual sales tax holiday kicked off today. Clothing and shoes costing more than $300 are exempt from the six-percent state sales tax.

Some stores are even offering even better deals to entice shoppers with sales and coupons for the exemption which lasts through Aug. 25.

However, some items aren't included like sports equipment, jewelry and accessories.

The Malloy administration says the state will lose $7.5 million in revenue, but hopes the week will boost shopping for Connecticut retailers.
