B&C Morning Show: Joe Girardi, Manager Of The Year?

During Jerry's first update, Craig made the statement that he believes that Yankees' skipper Joe Girardi deserves to be named the Manager of the Year. But when the guys went to the phone lines during the next segment, the very first caller had a huge issue with that statement, as did Boomer himself.

Craig centers his argument around the fact that the Yankees have been hit by several significant injuries and have overcome all of it to remain in first place with the second-best record in the American League. And let's face it, having this kind of record while having guys like Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, and CC Sabathia missing time is no small feat.

But as Boomer and some of the callers pointed out, perhaps more of the credit belongs to general manager Brian Cashman for putting together a deep roster that has been able to patch it together with the likes of Raul Ibanez, Andruw Jones, Eric Chavez, etc. Those guys may not be making major money, but they are all former All Stars.

There are plenty of those who don't hesitate to bring up the Yankees' financial resources as being a major advantage. Craig strongly dislikes that argument. At one point he even goes as far as to say that Girardi is the hands-down choice for MOTY.

While Boomer acknowledges that the Yankees' managerial job may be one of the toughest in sports, he likes other candidates such as Robin Ventura, Buck Showalter and Joe Maddon, whom he says are doing more with less. What's your take?
