Coples Wanted Out Of Game? Too Bad, Says Jets' Rex

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Rookie defensive end Quinton Coples has enjoyed rave reviews from Rex Ryan since the NFL draft.

But after Sunday night's preseason loss to the Carolina Panthers, Coples found himself in the Jets coach's doghouse.

"He kind of had a woe-with-me when we took out the starters," said Ryan. "Hey look, you're still a rookie, you have to play the whole game and then some."

Ryan said his first-round pick, who apparently wasn't too thrilled about getting extra snaps alongside New York's backups, "got winded a little bit" during the game.

"I wasn't as happy this game as I was previously," said Ryan. "They ran the ball on us with our second group in there and I never like to see that."

But it wasn't all bad. Coples recorded a sack and a forced fumble on Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the second quarter.

"He's a rookie. He'll figure it out," said linebacker Bart Scott, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. "He just went through four weeks of long training. He'll realize really what it takes to be successful in this league. We'll get him. It's a process."
