Linebacker Bart Scott: 'We Could Be The Best Jets Defense In Franchise History'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Jets have been receiving plenty of criticism this preseason for their lack of punch on offense.

The unit has yet to find the end zone, which understandably has Jets fans on edge.

But while Tony Sparano, Mark Sanchez and the rest of the crew clearly have their work cut out for them, linebacker Bart Scott believes that the Jets' defense will keep the team in contention week in and week out.

In fact, the former Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection believes that the defense has a chance to be historically dominant.

"Our fans should be excited," the 32-year-old told AllHipHop.com. "We've put some pretty interesting defenses on the field. But we have the most potential this year. If we do our jobs and communicate more, we could be the best Jets defense in franchise history."

Scott went on to defend his team's offense, saying that fans will be pleasantly surprised what's in store when the season begins on September 9.

"Our offense is taking a lot of flack for not scoring touchdowns in the preseason," Scott told the website. "With that being said, watching our offense and playing against our offense, I know there are a lot of strategies they've yet to pull out. Everything has been kept on the hush. Even with our opener against Buffalo, they don't have any idea of anything we're doing because we haven't shown anyone yet. We can't wait!"

The 11-year NFL veteran recorded 66 tackles and forced a fumble for Gang Green in 2011.

That's a pretty bold statement. Are you buying it, Jets fans? Sound off with your thoughts and comments below...
