Do Women Use Pregnancy As An Excuse To Let Their Bodies Go?

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson is coming under fire for some recent weighty comments, reports TV 10-55's Ann Mercogliano.

Anderson, a fitness expert who counts stars like Nicole Richie and Madonna as clients, told DuJour magazine that she thinks some women use pregnancy as an excuse to overeat and "let their bodies go." She also added that she lost her baby weight six weeks after her most recent pregnancy.

The backlash was almost instant. Mercogliano chatted with some New York women who disagreed.

"If you have a private trainer and chef cooking for you, I guess six weeks might happen," said pregnant New Yorker Suzanne Katz.

Anderson has since appeared on Good Morning America to clarify the comments.

"The last thing I would do is a judge a women," she said.

As Mercogliano reports, when it comes to bouncing back after pregnancy, Dr. Peter Hong advises moms to steer clear of rapid weight loss goals.

He says it's downright dangerous to crash diet while the body is recovering and repairing, and while breasts are producing milk.
