MTV Announces Cancellation Of 'Jersey Shore'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - It's the end of an era.

Fist pumping, t-shirt time, and "GTL" are all going the way of the dodo.

MTV announced that Season 6 will be the final season of "Jersey Shore."

The show made celebrities - and millionaires - out of the cast, which includes Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio.

It became a pop-culture sensation and one of MTV's biggest hits with its premiere in December 2009, drawing as many as 8 million viewers. It spawned the spinoffs "Snooki & JWoww" and "The Pauly D Project." But ratings have eroded in recent seasons.

The final season kicks off Oct. 4.
