Vacationer Goes Missing In Montauk

MONTAUK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Locals in Montauk are stunned to learn that a vacationer has gone missing.

George Richardson, 50, was last seen leaving his family in their room at the Hartman's Briney Breezes Motel to go for a stroll on the beach.

That was about 1 a.m. Tuesday and he hasn't been seen since.

The news is shocking to residents of this quaint, scenic, summer playground.

"Doesn't sound like Montauk," one man told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.

East Hampton detectives said they're exploring all possibilities, but that there's no known reason for Richardson's disappearance.

Richardson is 5-feet 6 inches tall, about 150 pounds and wears glasses, police said. He was last seen wearing an orange cap and running shoes. He has a small scar on his chin.
