Convicted Rapist Sentenced To 62 Years To Life For 2009 Long Beach Attack

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A convicted rapist was sentenced to 62 years to life in prison for the December 2009 rape of a woman.

Alfonso Barnes, 56, was convicted of raping the woman for an hour and a half in Long Beach, Long Island.

The victim was shaking and crying as she spoke in the Nassau County courtroom during the sentencing hearing, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

She said that in the nearly three years since the sex assault, she wakes up in the middle of the night reliving what she called a horrific nightmare.

She said she thought she was going to die and then asked the judge to help her move on with her life, Hall reported.

The victim could be heard crying as she left the courthouse in Mineola, Hall reported.

Before she sentenced him, the judge said she wanted to make sure Barnes would never be outside of prison.
