Tropical Storm Leslie Making Waves For Surfers Along The Jersey Shore

BELMAR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- With Tropical Storm Leslie moving toward Bermuda, dozens of surfers in our area are paddling in the foam as six foot waves crash overhead.

Weather experts say that surging waves are due in part to the weather system in the Atlantic Ocean. "Nate" from Spring Lake said he is certainly loving it.

"Yeah Leslie's doing really good right now, I'm really liking Leslie," he told 1010 WINS' John Montone. "She should be my girlfriend."

"Doug" from Point Pleasant cautioned, "We ain't seen nothing yet."

"Probably next two three days the surf's gonna jump to probably eight foot," he added.

That's because the National Hurricane Center could upgrade the system to Category 2.

The surfers said the waves have been big, fast and epic. One surfer told 1010 WINS' Montone he took a beating like he hasn't taken in about 10 years.

"It's a feeling that people search for their whole lives and can't find, but when you're out there and you get a good one it stays with you for days and you hunger for more," the surfer said.
