NYPD: Knife-Wielding Man Shot And Killed After Approaching Officer With Blade

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police said a knife-wielding man shot by an officer in Queens on Friday has died.

It was the second fatal police-involved shooting of the day in New York City.

Police were called to the 27-year-old man's home shortly before 5 p.m. They were told he was holding a knife to his neck.

Police said officers repeatedly ordered the man to drop it, but he refused and began approaching an officer while holding the blade in the air.

Police said the officer fired once and hit the man in the shoulder. He was taken to a hospital with what initially appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. He died at the hospital.

Earlier Friday, a Bronx convenience store worker fled a robbery and ran into an officer who shot and killed him in what police said was an accidental discharge.
