Blake Shelton Fires Back At Simon Cowell Over 'Voice' Comments

In a quick-to-brew war of words surrounding competing TV music shows, Blake Shelton has proved that he's not the kind of guy to sit back and let it slide.
Simon Cowell, whose X Factordebuted this Wednesday in its second season, made some inflammatory remarks recently about The Voice, the show Blake sits on as a judge (er, 'coach'--see below). Cowell appeared mostly ticked off that The Voice was kicking off its third season the same week across three nights (see our show recaps).
“I think three nights in a row is too much,” Cowell said during a recent telephone conference call that was reported by the Hollywood Reporter. "It's a spoiling tactic. I think it's mean-spirited and I hope and I pray that it backfires on them.”
He echoed those comments on the Ellen show Tuesday, saying that the people behind The Voice added the third night (which put it up against X Factor's season two debut that same night) "because they wanted to spoil our premiere."
Well those turned out to be fighting words. This week, Blake had some fiery words of his own for the X Factor founder (and former American Idol judge).
"Every time I turn around the guy is mouthing off," Blake told Access Hollywood. ""Don't y'all wish you had time to bitch and moan like that? It's like, 'Do you own show! Come on! Put something together there and do your thing. We’ll just do ours and we won’t mouth off about you.'"
“There’s room for all these shows,” Blake continued. “That’s what frustrates me when I hear the bickering. I’m like, ‘We’re all doing pretty good. High five!’ But I think the thing that the other shows probably took notice of was — the four of us on ‘The Voice’ — we’re not judges.”
Blake and fellow Voice 'coaches' Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are all professional musicians themselves.
So, says Blake, "when we have something to say to somebody on stage, we’re not just saying it from a judgment standpoint. We’re saying it from, ‘Well, here’s what I did, and it worked for me. Let me show you.’"
