In Normandy, Tennessee on Sept. 29, Jamey Johnson will join forces with Jessi Colter and Waymore’s Blues Band in a benefit concert to raise money in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
The concert takes place at Normandy’s River Cafe, which is owned by Nikki Mitchell, who worked with Jessi Colter’s late husband, the legendary Waylon Jennings. Nikki also runs Waylon Jennings Music, which manages everything Waylon-related. Nikki was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010.
Another artist who was afflicted by the disease was the late Hank Cochran, the songwriter behind such classics as “I Fall to Pieces” and “Make the World Go Away.” Cochran passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2010.
This fall, Jamey Johnson is releasing an album paying tribute to Hank, whom he befriended before his death. Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran will hit stores Oct. 16 (with a special vinyl version being released a bit earlier, on Sept. 25). Guests on the album include George Strait, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, and Ronnie Dunn.
Jessi Colter is best known for her huge 1975 hit “I’m Not Lisa.” Her most recent album, Out of the Ashes, was released in 2006.
The Full Moon Full Life benefit concert in Normandy, Tenn. (located about 90 minutes south of Nashville) takes place Saturday, Sept. 29. Proceeds will benefit the Translational Genomics Research Institute and Johns Hopkins University, to aid its Multidisciplinary Pancreatic Cyst Program. Advance tickets are $20.
