NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Revenge is a dish best served…on stage?

Well, at least that’s how one jilted wife saw it.

When her husband of 34 years left her for a younger woman, Ruthe Ponturo was inpsired to create a new, one-woman cabaret show. It’s appropriately titled “Divorce: The Musical.”

Ponturo, who had never written a song before putting together show, joined The Couch to talk about the experience. She said it was an empowering experience to not let her husband’s departure destroy her.

“I’m sure he’s very horrified,” Ponturo said when asked if her ex-husband is aware of the show.

For Ponturo, the process wasn’t so much about revenge, but a form of therapy.

“I’ve talked to a lot of divorced women – and some men, too – and [the show] really [is] about everybody’s experience. And it’s funny.”

Divorce! The Musical opens on Sept. 28.
