Yankees' Andy Pettitte Gearing Up For Tuesday Start

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Andy Pettitte is ready to take the mound at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays.  Manager Joe Girardi expects him to throw around 70 pitches in his return.

"I expect Andy to be Andy and compete like he always does," Girardi told MLB.com. "The only unfortunate thing is he's not built up to 100 pitches. If you get five good innings out of him, 70 pitches, that would be great."

The last time Pettitte made a major league appearance was on June 27 against the Cleveland Indians.  He only lasted four innings.

Through 9 starts, Pettitte is 3-3 with an ERA of 3.22.  He's struck out 59 batters in 58.1 innings pitched.

The Yankees are one game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles, but are off on Monday.  Baltimore plays in Seattle later tonight.
