PHOTOS: NYPD Conducts Anti-Terror Drill On 'Boardwalk Empire' Set In Greenpoint, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A special NYPD unit had a shoot-out with terrorists on the Atlantic City boardwalk Wednesday afternoon -- sort of.

The NYPD ran anti-terror drills using the Greenpoint, Brooklyn set of the HBO show "Boardwalk Empire."

The set remained up as officers with the Emergency Service Unit rushed to the scene by police helicopter and fast-roped onto the boardwalk to rescue hostages.

The special unit also took six "armed terrorists" into custody and a "wounded officer" was airlifted to safety as part of the drill, according to the NYPD.

The "Ritz-Carlton Hotel" was the scene of the mock terror attack in the drill.

"Boardwalk Empire" is set during the 1920s Prohibition era in Atlantic City and stars Steve Buscemi.

This was one of many drills conducted by the NYPD to address the threat posed by multiple active shooters. The drills are in response to the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks on a luxury hotel, train station, Jewish center and restaurant.
