Van From Pakistani Mission To UN Involved In Fatal Midtown Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An elderly man has died and his wife has been hospitalized after being hit by a car while waiting to cross the street Saturday night.

Police said Rubin Baum and his wife were at the corner of 59th Street and Park Avenue around 10:30 when a van and a car collided, careening into the crosswalk.

The van is registered to the Pakistani Mission to the United Nations, 1010 WINS reported.

Police said Baum, 80, was pinned under the Mazda after the car, which was driven by a 20-year-old man, wound up on the sidewalk.

Both drivers remained at the scene and have not been charged with any crimes, police said.

Baum and his 62-year-old wife Denise were taken to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival, 1010 WINS reported.

Denise was listed in serious but stable condition with a leg injury.
