Sources: Domestic Dispute Led To Fatal Shooting In Front Of Bronx Daycare Center

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Parents picking up their kids from a daycare center in the Bronx had to scamper across a bloody crime scene on Tuesday.

Mothers picking their children shielded their young ones from the crime scene in the middle of Coster Street.

A mother of two, identified as 43-year-old Kenia Castillo-Reyes, was shot four times -- once in the head -- and died a short while later at Lincoln Hospital after being taken there in critical condition.

"But I know she's gone. She's gone. The minute I [saw] her, I know she's gone," one witness told 1010 WINS' Al Jones.

That witness said the woman's teenage daughter was inside her apartment as the victim stepped out onto the sidewalk and was gunned down.

Sources told 1010 WINS Castillo-Reyes was ambushed and that the killing may have been sparked by a domestic dispute.

Another witness said it sounded "like [a] loud bang and that's it."

"I thought it was like an explosion or something else, you know, just 'pop,'" she said.

It's also not the first time John Castro has heard gunshots in his Hunts Point neighborhood.

"It's shame that...just shooting each other out here like that. I don't know for the reason or what the cause is, but probably boyfriend jealousy-type situation," Castro said.

Police are looking for the woman's former boyfriend, who was spotted rounding the corner and running down Lafayette Avenue, 1010 WINS' Jones reported.
