Nothing Is Immune, Apparently: Bedbug Found In City Health Department

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Even the agency that helps New Yorkers battle bedbugs isn't immune.

The New York Times reported that the city Health Department evacuated and fumigated a floor of its Queens headquarters on Friday after a single bedbug was found there.

The agency said in a statement that there wasn't any evidence of infestation, and standard procedures were followed. Those include steam cleaning and vacuuming, as well as alerting the staff.

Jeff Eisenberg, an author and owner of a local extermination company, said "it can happen to anyone.''

He said that the bugs can be carried from place to place on clothing. Unsuspecting people can pick them up in apartments, taxis and other infested spaces.

Well that's certainly comforting, New Yorkers. Sound off with your thoughts and comments below...
