NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The love people have for The Princess Bride knows no bounds.
Fans the world over continue to discover the cult classic fairy tale, with epic sword fights, a damsel in distress and Andre the Giant.
It’s gotten a hi-def movie makeover for the 25th anniversary Blue-ray, which is out now.
Now, Cary Elwes, who played Westley in the movie, is one of the Princess Bride stars to partner with Mercy Corps, a nonprofit humanitarian organization that saves and improves lives in the world’s toughest places.
The program helps people turn the crises of natural disasters, conflict and poverty into opportunities, by providing them with the tools and support they need to transform their lives.
Elwes has traveled to Africa with Mercy Corps to see their programs in action, and has been involved in several Mercy Corps fundraising campaigns.
