NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) — A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death early Sunday morning in front of 25 West 14th Street.
Michael Jones, of West Harrison, was in town visiting a friend in the West Village. Emergency responders found him laying in a pool of blood, with a severed left ear, and stab wounds to his neck and torso.
Jones was transported to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced Dead On Arrival.
The victim had been with his sister and a friend until midnight, when they parted ways, according to authorities.
A surveillance video shows the victim and attacker walking together down 14th Street near Union Square. The pair got into an argument and the suspected killer attacked.

Police described a particularly gory crime scene.
“It was a frenzy. The guy was chopped multiple times. He cut the guy’s ear off. It doesn’t get anymore personal than that,” a law enforcement source told the Post.
Neighborhood residents told CBS 2’s Drew Levinson that violent killing came as a surprise.
“I just don’t even know what to say, it has been a long time since I have thought of New York City as a dangerous place,” said Heather Malloy.
Jones was a part-time coach in the Red-Bulls’ youth training program. The Red Bulls released a statement praising his work and personality, and offering condolences to Jones’ family.
“We are aware of this tragedy and on behalf of the entire organization, want to send our most heartfelt condolences to Michael’s family, friends, and loved ones. He was a tremendous individual, a fantastic coach who loved soccer, and a terrific friend for many of us. This is truly a sad day for our soccer community, and we will do our utmost to help authorities in their investigation of this case. Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael’s family at this time,” the organization said.
The suspect has been described as a Hispanic man between the ages of 25 and 30, with a dark pony-tail.
No arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing.
