NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A mother and her son were shot and wounded in the robbery of a Bodega in Paterson, N.J. early Wednesday morning.

1010 WINS’ Gary Baumgarten reports

The pair was working in the store when a man came in, announced a robbery and then fired shots, police said.

The mother, 60 was shot in the stomach. She remains hospitalized in critical condition. Her son, 39, was shot in the leg.

Both are expected to survive.

The gunman fled the scene and is still at large.

Shootings in Paterson are so commonplace, that the City Council just asked Gov. Chris Christie for more money for police officers, 1010 WINS’ Gary Baumgarten reported.

Christie denied the request.

Paterson resident Joyce told Baumgarten almost every store on Broadway has been hit lately. She also said after living there for 14 years, she is afraid to come out at night.

The bodega has been in business for 25 years.

So far, no arrests have been made.
