Police: Woman Shot In Norwalk Parking Lot In Apparent Robbery, Carjacking Attempt

NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Norwalk police are searching for a gunman after a woman in her 50s was shot in the abdomen in broad daylight Wednesday.

Police said robbery or an attempted carjacking was the motive for the shooting.

The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Connecticut Avenue as the woman was walking back to her car after grocery shopping, police said.

The woman was confronted by a man who took a gun from his boot and shot her in the abdomen, according to police.

Witnesses said the shooting sounded like firecrackers were going off and then saw the woman laying on the ground yelling for help, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported.

The Greenwich woman was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived, police said. The victim was taken to Norwalk Hospital for surgery.

No arrests have been made in the case.
