SUMMIT, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A Union County police officer was hospitalized Wednesday morning following a bad car crash on the Watchung Reservation near Summit.
The officer was driving on a winding road when another car swerved, crossed over the double yellow line and into the path of his squad car, hitting it head on, police said.
“There’s a blind turn — a sharp blind turn and the vehicle actually appeared around a turn right into our car,” Union County Police Chief Daniel Vaniska told 1010 WINS.
The officer was undergoing precautionary treatment at the hospital.
“Hopefully he’ll be OK,” Vaniska said.
There was no immediate word on the condition of the other driver or whether there were any passengers in the vehicle. He was being questioned as part of the ongoing accident investigation, police said.
The police car was totaled. The other car was also damaged.
