NY Food Truck Lunch: Grilled Chicken Banh Mi From The Banh Mi Cart

Perry, the man behind New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City food trucks.

Having eaten a banh mi sandwich last week from a food truck in Asheville, N.C., we decided to go back to the Banh Mi Cart in the Financial District.

The Banh Mi Cart has 10 different types of banh mi sandwiches such as pork, steak, shrimp and roasted eel.

Prices are generally $6, with a couple at $7 and one for $8. We went for the Grilled Chicken Baguette, which costs $6.

On a crusty baguette were grilled chicken, onions, carrots, cilantro and cucumber spears.

The sandwich was crunchy to eat, between the bread, cucumbers and carrots. The chicken tasted like it was marinated in soy sauce and possibly fish sauce, which is a common ingredient in Vietnamese and Thai cuisine.

Unlike traditional banh mi, there was no pate in the sandwich, and it was not spicy at all.

If you don't like spicy food, the grilled chicken baguette is a good option.

The Banh Mi cart sets up weekdays on the corner of Pearl St and Hanover Square. They don't seem to have a website, twitter or facebook account, but you can find the cart there every weekday for lunch until 2:30 or so.
