Trump Blasts A-Rod On Twitter, Says Yankees Star Should Donate Salary

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Though he's not so great at the wave, Donald Trump knows how to deliver a stinging critique.

The real estate mogul and host of "Celebrity Apprentice" took to Twitter on Monday and blasted slumping Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

"A-Rod should donate his contract to charity," Trump tweeted. "He doesn't make the @Yankees any money and he doesn't perform. He is a $30M/yr rip off."

Rodriguez has been a disappointment this postseason with just three hits in 23 at-bats, no extra-base hits, no RBIs and 12 strikeouts. The high-priced slugger's status in the Yankees lineup has become an ongoing storyline, a new chapter written before each game.

New York is in a 2-0 deficit to the Detroit Tigers in the best-of-seven ALCS. Game 3 will be played Tuesday night.

"A-Rod is just not making it," wrote Trump. "We want to give him a chance but it was only drugs that made him great."

In 2009, Rodriguez admitted to using performance enhancing drugs from 2001-03 while with the Texas Rangers.

"The Donald" also took aim at the Yankees' injured captain: "Derek Jeter had a great career until 3 days ago when he sold his apartment at Trump World Tower- I told him not to sell- karma?"

Trump later said he meant no harm by the Jeter remark.

"Lots of response on Derek--but I told him his apartment was lucky!" wrote Trump. "We love Derek."

Not so much A-Rod.

"A-Rod was a great player when he lived at Trump Park Avenue--- even though he was on the juice!" Trump tweeted.
