Report: Manhattan Home To The Most Expensive Zip Code In The U.S.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Watch out, George Jefferson: It is more expensive than ever to move on up to the East Side and a deluxe apartment in the sky.

So says Forbes Magazine.

The most expensive zip code in the United States is 10065. The zip code encompasses East 60th Street to 69th Street from Fifth Avenue to East End. According to Forbes, the median asking price for homes in that zip code is $6.5 million. Rupert Murdoch, David Rockefeller, Ronald Perelman and more all have homes in that area.

It's the first time that real estate in New York City has topped the list. Forbes said lower inventory helped drive four Manhattan zip codes - encompassing the Upper East Side - into the top 10 list.

Last year's top zip code is also in the Tri-State Area: Alpine, N.J. (07620) - it was bumped to #2 on the list. The median home price there is $5.7 million.  The zip code is home to Stevie Wonder, Sean "Diddy" Combs and more.

Sagaponack, N.Y. - 11962 - on Long Island checks in at #4 on the list, with a median home price of $4.2 million.

Also making the list are 10014 in the West Village, 10021 and 10075, both of which are also on the Upper East Side.

The complete list is as follows:
