The color is worn to show support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth.
In 2011, celebs like Ricky Martin, Oprah Winfrey, Chaz Bono joined countless other big names (including the casts of Glee, Degrassi, Jersey Shore and the hosts of CBS' The Talk) joined the movement by wearing purple.
It's easy to share your support. Put on your favorite purple clothing item and share a picture of yourself on Facebook or Twitter (using hashtag #SpiritDay).
