Report: Bouncer Captures Suspect After West Village Robbery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A bouncer working security in a West Village bar was credited in a published report with capturing a man who allegedly had just mugged a woman early Saturday.

Around 4:25 a.m. Saturday, the man snatched a woman's purse on Hudson Street near Morton Street as she walked into a building with friends, and proceeded to drag her across the street, DNAInfo reported.

As the woman screamed for help while the man dragged her, bouncer Vinny Barbieri jumped into action from his post outside Henrietta Hudson, 438 Hudson St., DNAInfo reported.

He tackled the suspect and waited for police to arrive, as the woman screamed at her attacker and called him a "jerk," the publication reported.

A cab driver helped Barbieri hold the man until police arrived and took the man into custody, the publication reported.

The report did not indicate whether the woman was injured.
