Rothstein Files: 12-Day College Basketball Road Trip

By Jon Rothstein

Sometimes there's nothing like a good road trip.

Over the next 12 days, I'll be traveling to different parts of the country visiting different programs, observing practices, and taking part in some really fun broadcasting projects.

Check back to this space during the next two weeks for recaps of what I've seen and where I'm headed.

Some of the times and meetings below are to be determined and others may be added. We'll update this space periodically on a daily basis.

For now, here is a brief early breakdown of the next 12 days on the road.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 22

GEORGETOWN

Hoyas sophomore forward Otto Porter may be the only thing smoother in our nation's capital than President Obama.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23

6:30 AM MARYLAND

Mark Turgeon has College Park buzzing again --- but is this team really the ACC's sleeper? I'll get a good look bright and early on Tuesday morning.

3:30 PM GEORGE MASON

The buzz has been palpable down I-95 that Patriots freshman forward Marko Gujanicic could be special.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24

VCU

Anyone in Richmond will tell you the Rams are good enough to win the Atlantic 10. I'm not sold just yet but there's a legitimate chance of that happening if VCU junior power forward Juvonte Reddic continues to blossom. The 6-9 Reddic has pro potential if he can keep his motor going.

6 PM FLY FROM RICHMOND TO LOS ANGELES

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25 (WEST COAST TIME)

FIRST PART OF DAY --- JIM ROME SHOW, CBS SPORTS NETWORK

4 PM MEET WITH UCLA STAFF

It's always good to pop through Westwood, especially with the influx of talent Ben Howland has brought to UCLA.

7 PM USC PRACTICE

A healthy Jio Fontan plus a slew of talented newcomers makes the Trojans one of the nation's most intriguing teams.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26

7 AM LONG BEACH STATE PRACTICE

Dan Monson thinks his team may be more talented than it was last season --- seriously.

10 AM TO 3 PM JIM ROME SHOW CBS SPORTS NETWORK

4:30 PM VISIT WITH SAN DIEGO STATE STAFF

I may be the only person in the world who goes to San Diego for the basketball and not the climate.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28

10 PM FLY FROM LOS ANGELES TO INDIANAPOLIS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 29

6 AM BUTLER PRACTICE

I've never had a cup of coffee in my life but I may not have a choice on this day. Brad Stevens gets the Bulldogs going early on a regular basis.

3 PM LOUISVILLE PRACTICE

Rick Pitino told me last week this is the deepest team he's had at Louisville.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 INDIANA

The Hoosiers have all the requisites to win the Big Ten and get to a Final Four.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31

9 AM MEET WITH XAVIER STAFF

Musketeers freshman point guard Semaj Christon will be special.

3 PM CINCINNATI PRACTICE

Mick Cronin has the Big East's best back court with Cashmere Wright, Sean Kilpatrick, and JaQuon Parker.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1

EARLY AFTERNOON KENTUCKY PRACTICE/WALK THRU

7 PM KENTUCKY EXHIBITION GAME VS. NORTHWOOD AT RUPP ARENA

John Calipari against Rollie Massimino at Rupp Arena? Sounds tremendous. This will be the first time the public gets a look at the new look Wildcats against any type of opponent other than themselves.
