NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The popular Tony’s Pier Restaurant on City Island in the Bronx was in ruins Tuesday, following a fire that struck in the midst of Superstorm Sandy.

But the restaurant has vowed to rebuild.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. Monday night on City Island.

Between high tide and the storm’s lashing winds and rain, firefighters had their work cut out for them.

Gusts fueled the flames, blowing them horizontally.

A total of 140 firefighters responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

And despite the devastation, Tony’s Pier Restaurant said it would reopen in a new building.

“On Monday October 29, 2012 Tony’s Pier Restaurant was burned down during Hurricane Sandy from a loose telephone line,” Tony’s said in a Facebook message. “Our restaurant will be back stronger and better than ever. Brand new building, same great family and same great food. We are looking to re-open in the Spring of 2013. Thank You for all of your support. We look forward to seeing you soon.”

The 276-seat, cash-only seafood restaurant is known for items such as fried shrimp platters, steamers, and crab clusters, as described by Westchester Magazine.
