NJ Turnpike Near GWB Reopens After Downed Pole Creates Traffic Mess

LEONIA, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A two-mile stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike in northern New Jersey was reopened Tuesday night, hours after a downed pole created a traffic mess.

Earlier, both the express and local lanes of the Turnpike were shut down in both directions around 4:30 p.m., just west of the George Washington Bridge.

Northbound Turnpike traffic was directed onto Interstate 80 westbound, while eastbound I-80 traffic was directed onto the southbound Turnpike. Southbound traffic crossing the bridge was diverted onto Routes 4, 1&9 and 46.
